Looking for a bulk billing Chiropractor in Adelaide? Wow, wouldn’t it be great if you could get “free” Chiropractic?

Australia has a great public health system via Medicare. So, this means the taxpayer covers most of your GP & hospital expenses.

In this article, I’ll show you how to save money on Chiropractic if you have a Medicare card.

Disclaimer: every Chiropractor Adelaide operates differently, so I can only speak on behalf of You Chiropractic.

Bulk Billing Chiropractor Doesn’t Exist (in Australia)

In Australia, you can use your Medicare card to get “free” visits to a GP. Unfortunately, you can’t do the same for Chiropractic.

On the bright side, there’s a secret that most people aren’t aware of:

“If you ask your GP for a care plan, you may be able to get 5 subsidised Chiropractic sessions (per calendar year)”

Meaning, Medicare will partially cover 5 Chiropractic appointments for you between January and December.

Here are the terms and conditions:

  • Symptom or condition should be chronic (more than 3 months)
  • GP has to approve it
  • Chiropractor has to report back to your GP

Will my 5 Chiropractic Visits be Free?

Well, it depends on your Chiropractor Adelaide!

Medicare pays your Chiropractor $55 for each of the 5 Medicare subsidised visits.

If a Chiropractor usually charges $90 and Medicare pays them $55, they are technically losing $35. Luckily, some Chiropractors are happy to take that loss.

At You Chiropractic, we charge a $30 gap for each Medicare visit:

  • Our usual fee = $85
  • Medicare pays us $55
  • Gap (amount you pay) = $30

What Happens After the 5 Medicare Visits?

If you use up your 5 Medicare sessions, you have 2 choices:

  1. Continue using Chiropractic privately (without Medicare subsidy)
  2. Wait until next calendar year (new Medicare care plan)

Sometimes, you won’t use up all 5 visits by December. Unfortunately, you’ll lose all Medicare visits that you don’t use by the year end.

Don’t worry though, you can always request a new care plan from your GP in January next year.

Private Health Insurance + Bulk Billing Chiropractor

Some people want to use Medicare and private health insurance (e.g. BUPA) together.

It’s not possible to use both on the same appointment. In other words, it’s one or the other!

Luckily, you can use them for separate appointments. Hence, many people save money by having access to both a Medicare care plan and private health extras cover.

How to Get your 5 Medicare Chiropractic Visits?

Follow these 5 simple steps:

  1. Look for a Chiropractor Adelaide who accepts Medicare plans
  2. Then, ask your GP for a care plan
  3. Give GP’s referral letter to your Chiropractor
  4. Enjoy 5 Medicare subsidised visits (this calendar year)
  5. Finally, repeat next year if you wish
